Snap Inc. formerly Snapchat released its first ever hardware product known as the Spectacles. If you are a fan of the social media apps, this new gadget surely give you excitement! In this post we are going to talk about how will this product looks like and of course on how it will works. Let’s go into the first part, the design.
The Spectacles is actually a plastic glasses. It may look like a Ray-Ban riff which is great for current spectacles trend. Moreover, the Spectacles will come in three different colors, black, teal and coral. At the same time, the Spectacles come with rechargeable case and a glasses cleaning cloth.
The case will not look like any others spectacles case, where from the side view, it will looks like a triangle spectacles case. The case can hold enough power to recharge a pair of Spectacles four times. It can likely overcome the issue of huge battery drain in syncing HD clips. For recharging the case itself, a matching yellow-and-black magnetic charging cable smoothly locks into place on the rear of the case.
What Can It Does?
Have you seen any spy fiction movies where you can record a video with your spectacles? Yes, this is what Snapchat Spectacles does. By pressing a single button on the top left, you can start to record a short 10 seconds video footage.
If you are planning to record an extended video, you may presses of the button, for up to 30 seconds in total. The footage will be saved as three discrete 10-second snaps. However, once you uploaded it into a Snapchat Story they will be more or less play as a continuous footage.
Privacy and Security Measure
It can be quite disturbing if people record a video footage without your awareness. So, to make it more user-friendly, a tiny ring of LEDs on the front left of the glasses will swirls during recording. Basically to let people around you know that you’re shooting. At the same time, a small light inside the glasses will blinks to notify the user when recording begins and ends.
A New “Specs” Section Added on the App
Once videos are taken with Spectacles, you may sync via Bluetooth when the Snapchat app is open. It will automatically show up as grouped stories in a new “Specs” tab in the Memories section of the app.
So, every videos you taken will not be uploaded automatically. Every videos can be tweaked, filters can be added. All the clips can then be sent to friends, posted on your Story, and even shared on different social platforms.
In case you do not favor Bluetooth, you can always use Wi-Fi syncing for higher-definition versions of clips to transfer into your grouped stories. All you need to do is open your phone setting and changing your Wi-Fi network to a hotspot generated by the Spectacles themselves.
Since Snapchat is using the circular video format, all videos taken will be saved in a rounded footage. Even if you shared on your other social media platforms will be still be in the same format. It is actually a great signature for Snapchat Spectacles.
Snapchat Spectacles will be selling at the price of $130. Since there will be a conversation if the product enters Malaysian market. The price will be slightly around RM500+. The price can be quite reasonable for camera spectacles. On eBay, the price of the gadget has gone up to $1,000.
